We’ve put together 10 great activity ideas that are guaranteed to liven up your summer break. 

Africa Museum – Balatonederics

A place where you can discover a mini-Africa on the shores of Lake Balaton. This is no joke—at the Africa Museum in Balatonederics, lion cubs, zebras, camels, ostriches, and buffalo welcome visitors to a mini safari park featuring traditional huts, an observation tower, and a playground. The museum’s indoor exhibition features trophies, ethnographic artifacts, and the fascinating cultural history of Africa, while to kids, the entire complex looks like one big adventure park. In our opinion, the Africa Museum is one of the most unique, child-friendly destinations in the Balaton Uplands, where you can discover a distant corner of the world during a trip to Lake Balaton.

Balaton Adventure Park – Nosztori Ridge, Csopak

Located between Veszprém and Csopak, on the Nosztori ridge, one of the most diverse adventure parks on the northern shore of Lake Balaton spans nearly 4 hectares. A miniature railway, the NosztoRide bike track for two age groups, Mini City with electric toy cars and its own town hall, go-karts, rope courses, a trampoline, a climbing wall, giant chess, archery, a bouncy castle—and if all that isn’t enough, don’t miss the playhouse, where kids can become the heroes of fairy tales. An added bonus is that the park features a dog-friendly restaurant and is expanded with new attractions every year, so returning visitors will always find something new.

CODE Center of Digital Experiences – Veszprém

At CODE, special experiences await both young and old: step into the iconic six-sided hall, the Hexagon, and immerse yourselves in the fairy tales of Berry and Dolly, or set off with Zamira, the brave little girl, in search of the Hidden Sounds. Discover together the secrets of outer space, nature, architecture, and art with the help of the 3D Studio’s , try out the interactive community games at CODE Play, and don’t miss the Exhibition Hall, where you can learn more about the history of Veszprém.

Lovagvölgy Adventure Park – Csesznek

Located at the foot of Csesznek Castle, in the heart of the Bakony Hills, the medieval-themed theme park offers a few hours when kids can become little pages and parents can become knights. A swing, a tower slide, a jumping hill, a VR experience, a herb garden, and the Little Knights’ obstacle course—all in one place. In the escape room, set out to uncover the secrets of Jakab Cseszneki, and enjoy a delicious lunch at period-style Sóvirág Restaurant. An ideal outing in the Bakony Hills with kids, especially if you’ve had enough of the heat.

Fenyves Mill – Veszprém

Nestled in the Séd Creek valley, is one of the most beloved destinations for anyone who loves to learn through experience and try new things. Demonstration milling, bread baking in a traditional oven, and craft workshops—all of which give kids a firsthand look at what life was like for a miller’s family in the past. Perfect for birthday parties, class field trips, and spontaneous weekend visits— but it’s a good idea to make a reservation in advance.

Veszprém Zoo – Veszprém

Animals from all corners of the world and a full day of adventure: Veszprém Zoo is a place we think is worth visiting at least once every season. A walk through the natural surroundings and getting to know the animals offers a memorable experience even for the youngest visitors, but if that weren’t enough: amazing playgrounds and excellent dining spots ensure that you’ll spend a truly fulfilling, full-day program together.

Kabóca Puppet Theater – Veszprém

For more than 20 years, Kabóca Puppet Theater has been one of Veszprém’s iconic family-friendly venues: anyone who visits once almost always returns. In addition to its performances, the puppet theater offers a variety of interactive programs for families every weekend, and Kabócádé Festival is, year after year, one of the most popular children’s events in the region, taking place this year from June 26–28 in Veszprém. Giant puppets, a street theater, creative workshops, concerts, and that special atmosphere that can’t be described—you have to experience it for yourself!

Laczkó Dezső Museum – Veszprém

Attention, young paleontologists! One of Veszprém’s most versatile museums offers archaeological treasures, an ethnographic collection, and exciting temporary exhibitions— all of this enhanced with museum education activities and interactive elements. Located next to the museum, Bakony House is one of the oldest open-air ethnographic museums in Hungary, where a guided tour filled with sound and light effects brings the world of everyday life in old Veszprém to life.

Salföld Manor – Salföld, Kál Basin

If there’s one activity guaranteed to get every kid off their feet, it’s petting animals, and Salföld Manor offers much more than that. Kids can get up close and personal with the traditional farm animals of Hungarian agriculture, feed the animals, and even hop on a horse-drawn carriage with their parents, which winds its way through the picturesque beauty of Salföld. A fantastic playground and a snack bar also await families at the farm: a true rural-style destination in the Balaton Uplands, open from March through November.

Kis-Balaton Visitor Center – Fenékpuszta

Few people know about it, even though it’s one of the best programs for families, located just a stone’s throw from Lake Balaton. One of Europe’s most valuable wetland habitats is home not only to birds and reeds: this overgrown, mysterious world is where the novel Tűskevár is set, and where Uncle Matula’s stories come to life before our eyes. Kis-Balaton Visitor Center is a true wonder: an interactive exhibition, a nature trail accessible even to kids at the edge of the reeds, and a cozy movie theater where the wildlife of Kis-Balaton comes to life through the voice of Gábor Reviczky— the latter, incidentally, also appeals to adults. This is also the starting point for canoe tours, and the complex even features an excellent restaurant and a shaded playground. One thing is certain: anyone who walks through it once will see this landscape in a whole new light.

Draft Horse Center – Nagyvázsony

Nagyvázsony is the perfect place for Hungarian horses to discover the world: at Igásló (Draft Horse) Center, where carriage rides, equestrian games, and interactive exhibits await. One of the best venues for equestrian activities in the Bakony Hills can be visited by appointment, and on the first Sunday of every month, Nagyvázsony Animal Fair is held here, where you can purchase not only livestock but also local delicacies and produce.

Síaréna Vibe Park – Eplény

Did you know that Eplény Ski Arena, which operates as a ski resort in the winter, doesn’t close its doors in the summer either? A chairlift, a bobsled track, and outdoor adventure activities await those who’d like to admire the Bakony panorama from a slightly different perspective and are looking for active summer activities near Veszprém. From the chairlift, the view of the Bakony Hills and Lake Balaton from high above offers a magnificent panorama.

Folly Arboretum and Winery – Badacsonyörs

It’s no coincidence that this is one of the most popular spots on the northern shore of Lake Balaton among both parents and kids: Badacsonyörs Arboretum is home to hundreds of carefully tended plant species—including unique rhododendrons, fragrant magnolias, centuries-old cedars, and exotic conifers—and as kids wander among them, they’ll discover exciting games, amazing playgrounds, and interactive attractions, allowing them to discover the wonders of the plant world. In the evening, a light show makes the venue even more magical, and the experience is sure to stay with you for a long time.

Tihany Market PLACC – Tihany

A visit to the market near the Tihany pier offers a charming, laid-back, and kid-friendly outing on Lake Balaton, where the little ones can explore handmade crafts and local delicacies, while parents can relax, knowing there’s plenty to see and do for both kids and adults alike. The market is open every weekend from early March through mid-December (the main market is open on Saturdays).

AMFI Alsóörs

Carved into the red cliff face of Csere Hill, this unique cultural space—a former quarry transformed into a modern experience center—features a 450-seat amphitheater, which houses Hungary’s largest planetarium, a playground, and public spaces, and also serves as a venue for theatrical performances, concerts, and interactive programs, where nature and culture come together.
