We invite you on a journey through time, to a place where the walls still remember 1956.
Do you, too, walk past the Fire Watchtower every day, or hurry through the hallways of theUniversity of Pannonia on your way to class? But have you ever stopped to think about exactly what happened here in the fall of 1956? How did your generation—the young people of Veszprém at that time—change the course of history?
Now you have the opportunity to walk in your own footsteps through the most important sites of the revolution in Veszprém, and relive the drama from its beginnings to the reprisals.
During the walk, we'll visit the key sites related to these events:
- The Spark: the university general assembly where students in Veszprém formulated their demands.
- The Fall of the Symbols: how was the red star torn down from the Fire Watchtower?
- The Line of Fire: the story of the brutal battles on November 4 and the defense of the city.
- The Reprisal: the prison where the fate of the revolutionaries who fought for freedom was sealed.
Program fee: 2,000 HUF per person
The walk will be led by: Erzsébet Rimanóci
Meet in the courtyard of Ruttner House (8 Jókai Street)
This isn't a boring history lesson.
