The Whiskey Man Returns to the Dungeon

On June 7, 2026, Várbörtön Visitor Center will once again welcome Attila Ambrus.

A special day where you can hear, up close and personal, the details of a story that many are familiar with in one way or another— but few have heard personally, firsthand, and honestly.

If you missed it last year, now is your chance.

If you were there, you know why it’s worth coming back.

Detailed program:

Behind Bars and Beyond – Firsthand Prison Stories – A Personal Guided Tour of "The Human Behind Bars” Exhibition with Attila Ambrus

10:00 - 11:30  Behind Bars & Beyond – Firsthand Accounts of Prison Life – A subjective guided tour of the exhibition “The Human Behind Bars” with Attila Ambrus

Whiskey Man gives us an inside look at the extraordinary details of his life in prison. He shares with us how he experienced his long years in prison—from his initial confinement, through his training in trade, to his release. You can gain an insight into the elusive, dramatic, and at times even dark reality of the prison world.

“Get Back on Your Feet” – A candid, no-holds-barred conversation about beginnings and starting over

2:00 PM – 3:30 p.m. “Get Back on Your Feet” – An honest conversation without taboos about beginnings and starting over

The conversation will cover the life events that directly or indirectly shaped the Whiskey Man. It reveals the hardships of prison life and gives us insight into inmates’ survival strategies. The Whiskey Man talks about how he faced his own demons, and how he learned to find new meaning in his life. Through his own example —and with his characteristic self-deprecating humor—he shows how to come to terms with one’s sins in a way that serves as a lesson for others as well.
