Join us at the guided tours organized by Northern Neighbors Public Interest Senior Citizens’ Cooperative on the Neighbors’ Cardio Trail in Balatonalmádi.

What is a cardio trail?

The “Path to Health” program is a health initiative established by St. Francis Hospital.

The trail was designed primarily for people living with cardiovascular disease or hypertension, as well as those with diabetes. However, we also recommend the hiking program to our healthy participants for disease prevention purposes.

The Cardiotrek is a pleasant and beneficial recreational exercise program where, as part of a hike (or brisk walk), you can get a kind of feedback on your heart health. To this end, we’ve developed professionally designed routes along which we’ve placed informational signs where you’ll first measure your resting heart rate, and then, at subsequent stops, measure your heart rate under exertion. By the end of the hike, you’ll have a clear picture of what your heart rate is at rest and how it changes during exercise, at various levels of intensity, and on ascents of varying steepness. The heart rate data collected during the hike will be evaluated after the hike is complete.

Who is this program for?

The program is designed for healthy individuals, as well as those with cardiovascular or high blood pressure conditions, diabetes, and other chronic conditions

—to screen for any undiagnosed conditions,

—for the purpose of regular exercise and self-monitoring.

With trails of varying lengths and difficulty levels, everyone can find the one that’s right for them.

You can record your heart rate measurements taken during the hike on the forms provided at the starting signs. Your readings will be checked by our local healthcare partner. If any abnormalities are found, you will receive feedback, and regardless of where you live, you can schedule an appointment with a cardiologist.
