Veszprém, August 20, 2026. — Laczkó Dezső Museum, Veszprém, on our national holiday, August 20. The event will take place in the Museum Garden, at the Bakony House, and at our external venue, Essegvár in Bánd.

Creative workshops and exhibition opening in the Museum Garden
In the morning, it’s all about families and creativity: between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., a grain-themed workshop, a relaxing pattern-painting workshop, and a community furniture-painting class (painting chests and cabinets) await visitors. The fourth “Masters of Crafts” exhibition opens at 10:30 a.m., with museum director Brigitta Szanyi presiding over the opening ceremony, followed by Uncle Ricsi’s Playhouse, which will entertain the kids with live folk music and hands-on craft activities.

History and Preservation of Traditions
At 11:00 a.m., a folk art adventure begins at the Bakony House under the title Memory Machine – A Colorful World – The Hungarian World. In the afternoon, at 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., historian Dr. Krisztián Fogl will give lectures on the connection between St. Stephen, Gizella, and Veszprém.

At 3:00 p.m., the ceremonial blessing of bread will take place at Veszprém Archdiocese and the National Chamber of Agriculture (NAK).

Visitors can also view a faithful replica of the Hungarian coronation mantle in the museum’s lobby, which was crafted by the workshops of the Hungarian State Opera House created to mark the 1025th anniversary of St. Stephen's coronation.

Archaeology Open House and Magic Show in Bánd
In the afternoon, the programs will continue at the outdoor venue, Essegvár in Bánd. Starting at 5:00 p.m., there will be an archaeological dinner, and an open university session will be held, where Szabolcs Balázs Nagy, the lead archaeologist of the excavation, will present the latest findings and behind-the-scenes insights. The festive day will conclude with a spectacular performance by magician Gyula Szalay.
