The Hungarian Energy and Public Utility Regulatory Authority (MEKH) was established in 2013 as the legal successor to the Hungarian Energy Office with the aim of supervising sectors of strategic importance to the national economy as an independent regulatory body. The authority is governed exclusively by legislation and has its own budget within the budget chapter of the National Assembly. .
