Introduction

The Kulturális Örökség Napjai (European Heritage Days) is an annual nationwide series of events that provides an opportunity for the general publicto visit monuments, buildings, and sites that are usually closed to the public, free of charge and with professional guidance.

The goal is for the event to be a kind of motivational that strengthens citizens' desire to preserve their cultural heritage.

The initiative began in France in 1984, and in 1991 it became a joint program of the Council of Europe and the European Union. Hungary joined the program in 1999, which is coordinated by the Hungarian National Committee of ICOMOS.

Who are they?

A national heritage, who organize annual open days related to the built heritage.

In 1999, the Ministry of National Cultural Heritage commissioned the Cultural Heritage Protection Office's Social Relations Directorate(then known as the Department of International and Social Relations of the National Office for the Protection of Cultural Heritage) to organize the event.
