Growing Down

Sándor (Szabolcs Hajdu), a father who has recently been widowed, finds himself caught in a serious moral dilemma. He is the sole witness to a serious accident caused by his troubled teenage son—and to make matters worse, the victim is his new girlfriend’s kid. She must decide: will he bear the burden of the truth and the consequences that will ruin his son’s life, or will he lie about the incident— to his partner, the police, and even to himself—which, in turn, will distort his son’s psyche for the rest of his life? His father’s instincts drive him toward the latter.

Bálint Dániel Sós’s film, produced as part of the Incubator Program, premiered in the First Feature Film Competition at the Berlin International Film Festival: “Even the road to hell is paved with good intentions” by examining situations that challenge even the viewers’ most firmly held beliefs.
