St. Martin's Day celebrations and pumpkin carving competition

New wine, goose, autumn delicacies, and a great atmosphere – that's how we're celebrating St. Martin's Day in Badacsonytomaj this year! Come to the square in front of Town Hall on Saturday afternoon, November 8, and let's toast to the traditions of St. Martin's Day together! The Badacsony Tourism and Wine Association cordially invites everyone to a cheerful autumn afternoon!

St. Martin's Day is the last day before the 40-day Advent fast, when hearty meals and merriment are permitted. In addition to dancing, goose fat bread and new wine are essential items on the table. According to tradition, not only is it recommended to eat goose dishes on this day, but also to drink new wine. It is believed that the more wine you drink on this day, the healthier you will be! This is guaranteed here, as thanks to the winegrowers of Badacsony, we can enjoy plenty of new wine on St. Martin's Day!

2:00 p.m.: The pumpkin carving competition begins (advance registration required at the Tourinform office)

3:00 p.m.: The St. Martin's Day Festival begins

The festival will be opened by Zoltán Illés, president of Badacsony Tourism and Wine Association. Guests will be welcomed by Béla Hartai, mayor of Badacsonytomaj. The St. Martin's Day cuvée made from the new wine is blessed by Imre Bedy, parish priest. Tamas Borbely, president of the Badacsony Hill Wine Region.

Then the tasting of the new wine begins. It is accompanied by bread with goose liver pâté, pogácsa (savory scones), sweet and savory pastries, and autumn drinks. The kindergarten and school parent-teacher associations will bring their delicacies to the celebration, and the Badacsonytomaj Group of the Women for Lake Balaton Association. 

Between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Aacute; TÉKPARK free of charge.

From 4:15 p.m.: Announcement of the results of the pumpkin carving competition

6:00 p.m.: Raffle (with valuable prizes)

During the event, live music will be provided by the band TranziT. Their repertoire includes children's songs, country, rock and roll, and retro music.

We are announcing a PUMPKIN CARVING CONTEST for kindergarten and elementary school  kids. Individual or team entries are possible, but teams may consist of a maximum of 3 people. The first three winners will receive VALUABLE GIFTS, while the creators of the most impressive, most elaborate, and funniest carvings will receive a SPECIAL PRIZE!
