The history of Zirc Arboretum dates back to the 18th century, when the monks of the Cistercian Abbey of Zirc began laying out the park in the English garden style. Such gardens are characterized by a natural-looking layout: the trees and shrubs are not arranged in a regular pattern but are positioned to follow the natural contours of the landscape. The fishpond located near the entrance was established in the 1720s on the site of an earlier pond that presumably existed as far back as the Middle Ages.
The arboretum is home to nearly 600 species of trees and shrubs. A significant portion of the plant collection consists of species native to the Bakony Hills, while the collection is also enriched by unique plants originating from distant parts of the world. The park’s wildlife is also exceptionally diverse: squirrels, bats, amphibians, and occasionally even deer can be spotted among the trees. The birdsong, the peaceful surroundings, and the benches placed along the walking trails offer a pleasant respite for anyone who wants to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
The community’s mom-and-baby outings always have an amazingly good atmosphere; there’s always a chance to meet fantastic women and mothers, chat, unwind—it’s truly a much-needed and rejuvenating experience for moms and babies alike. Don’t miss out on this fantastic opportunity—join us and let’s go on an outing together!
