Mohács 500 / The Ottoman Empire’s Expansion into Europe and Changes in Brick Manufacturing Practices in the Carpathian Basin —Changes in Brick Usage Practices in the 16th Century

What was on top went to the bottom; what was on the bottom rose to the top... In the Kingdom of Hungary, in the period following the defeat at the Battle of Mohács, there were such social and economic shifts that— with the exception of the establishment of the Hungarian state and the Tatar invasion — had no precedent in Hungarian history.

The Turkish advance in the 16th century fundamentally transformed Hungarian  architectural practice, and, in parallel, the production of building materials. Both technically and in terms of priorities, this forced restructuring left a deep mark on Hungary.

Join us for a guided tour and discover how the era of Ottoman rule transformed Hungary’s architecture and the use of building materials.

Admission to the program is free. The event is part of the Cultural Heritage Days series.
