Malomvölgy Festival

From August 13–15, the Malomvölgy Festival in Lovas, one of the most charming towns in the Balaton Uplands.

The three-day event takes place in a unique natural setting, on the banks of the Séd Stream in the green space surrounding the Márffy House, offering intimate concert experiences featuring outstanding performers of Hungarian and international jazzmusic, local cuisine, and wines from the Balaton Uplands come together in the setting of a charming boutique festival.

Thanks to its proximity to the stream and the shade provided by the trees, the festival takes place in a pleasantly cool setting even during the summer heat The festival aims to offer an alternative to the world of large-scale events, thereby focusing on an intimate, human-scale musical experience.

In addition to the concerts, gastronomy also plays an important role at the festival. The Márffy House welcomes visitors with a varied selection of high-quality street food: the menu features cevap made from house-cut beef served in pita bread, various types of quiche lorraine, freshly grilled dishes, and soups of the day. The selection includes a cheese board featuring local cheeses, homemade pies, wines from the Balaton Uplands, Hungarian craft beers, sparkling wine, pálinka, fresh smoothies, and high-quality coffee. The goal is to pair the musical experience with flavors thatevoke the atmosphere of the Balaton Uplands as well as the festival’s picturesque surroundings.

Just a few steps from the festival venue, at the Lovas Kikötő, mid-morning concerts awaitthe public, and are free for anyone interested to attend.

The Malomvölgy Festival is organized by the Budapest Jazz Club, and aims to enrich the summer cultural offerings of the Balaton Uplands with a high-quality jazz festival featuring a family-friendly atmosphere.

The Cafuné band’s repertoire features unique pieces of traditional South American guitar music. With their acoustic sound, they aim to carry on a tradition represented by Dilermando Reis, Augusto Garoto, Baden Powell, and Luiz Bonfa. This authentic sound is enhanced by the voice of Anna Pataki, who interprets this style with a rare naturalness in both Portuguese and Spanish. The world of pulsating samba and soft bossa nova evokes the atmosphere of the jazz clubs of the 1960s.

The Péter Sárik Trio released its first album featuring Bartók arrangements in 2018, which was premiered in the Grand Hall of the Academy of Music. Since then, they have performed the program in 15 countries around the world, garnering enormous success from Finland through Kazakhstan all the way to China. The stunning power and dynamism of Bartók’s works almost sweep the listener away; his music is full of excitement, mystery, boundless depth, and purity. Péter Sárik’s trio put together this material with the goalto introduce Bartók’s music to those who may have been averse to it until now through our arrangements.

Edina Mókus Szirtes is one of the most extraordinary figures on the Hungarian world music scene. She is a very rare “cocktail”: a virtuoso with years of experience, yet at the same time a completely natural individual. At times he explores folk, chanson, Eastern, or contemporary sounds, but his distinctive violin runs and his raw, soulful voice elevate him above all such trends. János Nagy Yancha, a defining figure on the Hungarian jazz scene, has played a significant role not only as a renowned jazz pianist but also as a bandleader and composer.

For Veronika and Bálint, their acoustic duo has become their primary format for performing, and although they recorded their latest album, *Shapeshifter*, as a quartet with two Belgian musicians, the core of their collaboration remains the duo lineup. They’ve figured out how to achieve the richest possible sound using just a single guitar and vocals, and their songs embody a depth of personal inspiration, freedom, and humor inherent in their songs.

Already in its first year, Pankastic! achieved remarkable success with its unique sound. The band is characterized by a blend of manouche swing and pop melodies, a light yet explosively energetic performance style, and virtuoso improvisations.

From the land of frenetic rhythms and divine melodies, Elsa Valle, a fiery, unbridled singer from Cuba, is a huge favorite with the audience. With Afro-jazz running through her veins, the artist’s new band, named Afrocando, plays music that combines elements of Afro-jazz and bebop, featuring a complex rhythmic world while also performing melody-oriented music.
