The "Move, Veszprém!" series of programs, organized as accompanying events for the 2026 Sumo European Championships, offers experience-based, open to all age groups.
Participants can try out the fitness challenge, archery, the obstacle course, and soft sumo, while taking part in community challenges and shared cheering experiences. Japanese cultural performances further enriched the event.
The goal of the project is for kids, families, and school communities to experience the joy of physical activity, get to know local sports clubs, and adopt a more active and health-conscious lifestyle in the long term.
The event will take place in the open space in front of the One Veszprém Arena.
Planned program items:
- Fitness Challenge demonstration and amateur competition
We will hold a demonstration featuring European and world champion athletes from the Hungarian Fitness Federation. The Fitness Challenge consists of a six-station circuit of timed exercises based on simple routines that are accessible to everyone. Following the demonstration, we will announce an amateur competition in several categories, where participants can expect shortened, easy tasks.
- Archery program with Litér Traditional Archery Association
The association is holding an open training session that anyone can join. Throughout the day, there will be warm-up exercises, playful activities, target shooting, and group-based movement drills.
- Mini Spartan Race obstacle course in collaboration with Veszprém Terepakadályfutó Sports Association.
Demonstrations and amateur races will be held on the obstacle course set up in front of the Arena. The program is particularly popular among 8- to 25-year-olds. Mini challenges also add variety to the range of activities, which include Spartan Race strength, stamina, and agility exercises. Winners will receive prizes (e.g., medals, certificates, etc.)
- Soft sumo sessions
Soft sumo is a playful, safe, and developmental variation of the sport of sumo, which is particularly ideal for elementary school students, but people of all ages can give it a try. We hold fun workshops led by our European champion athletes.
- Rubber-band workshop with the Veszprém Gymnastics Club
A short, spectacular demonstration will be held in the arena, further enriching the program.
- Japanese cultural programs
In the hall’s foyer, visitors can enjoy an exhibition of Japanese paintings and photographs, ikebana, shodo, craft workshops, a tea house, and a culinary demonstration await visitors. The goal is for participants to gain insight into the cultural background of sumo.
- SUMO TOURNAMENT community challenge
Spectators and athletes alike shout the phrase “hakkeyoi,” which is used in sumo. ("hakkeyoi" (はっけよい)—a phrase used in sumo that the gyoji (referee) shouts during a match, and it roughly means: "Give it your all!") We measure the volume with a decibel meter and publish the results. The goal of the challenge is to strengthen the sense of community and boost the atmosphere.
- Fan Competition
Participating teams can compete against each other in a fan competition to see who is the most active. They can earn points by completing various tasks at the sports clubs’ stations. We will award a prize to the most active team.
- On site , we will provide free health screening exams by setting up a mobile screening station.
