The Nativity play, or "betlehemezés," is a folk mystery play performed during the Advent and Christmas season. Its central element is a homemade, church-shaped nativity scene, which the performers carried from house to house. The Glorious King of Heaven Has Descended is a one-person nativity play that combines almost every type of folk theater: the “Search for Shelter,” “Star,” “Paradise,” and “Shepherds” nativity plays. Drawing on Hungarian folk tradition, it tells the story of the birth of Jesus, the Savior, to children and adults alike.
