Setting off for the lavender fields of Tihany
We set off from our base in Balatonfüred, and after the rest of the group joins us in Tihany, we’ll soon come across the first lavender field right next to the bike path. Continuing on toward the boat station, if we arrive at the right time (Saturday), we’ll pop into the Akasztódomb market in Tihany. Then we head into the interior of the peninsula, where we can admire one of the largest lavender fields, though they are less well-known. We’ll head up toward Sajkod, and just a few meters from the road, we’ll cycle through the forest, which offers an unparalleled experience.
A maze? No! A maze!
Turning onto the Balaton bike path in Aszófő, the Lavender Maze awaits us next to the bike path; if we manage to find our way out, we’ll reach Örvényes, where the watermill and Pán Spring are also worth stopping by. At the old cemetery in Balatonudvari, our tour guide will recount the legend of the heart-shaped gravestones.
Dörgicse: lavender & a trip down memory lane
In Dörgicse, two church ruins await us; we’ll stop at the ruins of the Church of Our Lady and admire the view of Lake Balaton unfolding before us. Here we can visit Dörgicse Lavender Farm, where a tour of the garden, sipping lavender tea, and sampling cookies can be a memorable experience.
Two gems: Vászoly and Pécsely
We continue our journey toward Vászoly, driving along a hilly, winding road with little traffic, but thanks to the electric assist, the ride is a real thrill. In Vászoly, we take a break at the water stage and cool off with water from the St. James' Spring. We arrive in Balatonfüred via the villages of the Balaton Uplands, coming from Pécsely and Balatonszőlős.
