The southern parts of the basin were once washed by the waves of Lake Balaton. Today, in these low-lying areas, numerous botanical curiosities can be seen on the remnants of the former marshes. In addition to the geologically significant sites and the numerous rare plant and animal species, charming little settlements and villages dot the route.
