Another Lake Balaton – analog photos of a familiar landscape
Overview:
The "other" can only be understood in relation to what we already know. Lake Balaton lives on in our collective memory: the hot pier surface that sticks to our thighs, the anti-theft towel cover over our stuff on the beach, the smell of sunscreen, the colorful water bikes, the evening mosquito bites, and the beautiful sunset horizon. Shared memories that come alive differently to everyone.
These images are not mere spectacles, but engraved scenes—memory automatisms that are activated again and again. The exhibition attempts to evoke these, which then merge with fresh experiences: the ecstasy of the festival, the panoramic view from the top of the hills, the moment of recognition when, with a glass of wine in our hands, we are enchanted by the landscape for the first time — Lake Balaton is a place where we can always have new experiences. Analog photographs do not record events, but states: silences, residual light, delayed moments. The landscape does not appear as a backdrop, but as a surface of memory, where the viewer's own Lake Balaton comes into play.
Another Lake Balaton can be interpreted in the distance that stretches between the photos and our memories. The images created with multiple exposures evoke the layered nature of memory: moments that slide into each other and blur form the memorial space of Lake Balaton.
