Odd Couple - Part of the Central Theater's Summer Program Series

Every evening between August 8 and 15, starting at 8:30 p.m. at Szigliget Castle Courtyard, one of the 20th century’s most successful playwrights, Neil Simon’s most famous play, Odd Couple, will be performed in a brand-new translation by Samu Puskás and Dávid Puskás.

The two good friends, the comedy duo Oscar and Felix are played by Róbert Alföldi and András Stohl, who are now appearing on stage together for the first time. The supporting roles feature such outstanding actors as Róbert Marton, Attila Magyar, András Mészáros, Bálint Rada, Éva Lili Domokos, and Mariann Hermányi.

Two people who differ in almost every way: one is orderly, the other is messy; one plans every minute, the other can’t stand restrictions; one mops the floor, the other makes a mess… But what happens when these two people get together? A series of the most entertaining and hilarious situations unfolds!

In Odd Couple, Neil Simon depicts the process of a relationship’s doomed attempt to succeed. The ingenious twist is that both the female and male elements are played by men, so the dramatic element is absent, leaving only pure comedy. In the end, you realize that the problem is unsolvable: women are from Venus, men are from Mars, and these two qualities are incompatible.

—translated by director Tamás Puskás.

The play is performed in two acts.
