Zsuzsi Ujj, an iconic figure of the Hungarian underground and also known as the founding singer of the band Csókolom, has created a unique, radical visual language through her photo performances. The series titled Mirror on the Wall and other works in the exhibition were created between 1985 and 1991 and black-and-white portraits. These self-portraits are not merely documents, as the artist also used her own body—decorated with paint—as a medium. Her paintings are raw yet lyrical expressions of womanhood, sexuality, and repressed emotions. The exhibition highlights the close unity of her musical and visual worlds: the photographs and the poems convey the same honest, at times ironic, and painful confrontation. The exhibition offers a glimpse into a body of work that began in Veszprém, and that, decades later, became a recognized part of the international contemporary art scene.

The exhibition will be opened by Tibor Várnagy
