The night when everything comes to life: The Night of Museums is coming on June 20

On June 20, during Night of Museums, the cultural venues of Veszprém and the Bakony-Balaton region cultural sites will come to life once again. On this special summer evening, there will be unique guided tours, exhibitions, concerts, fascinating lectures, and exciting accompanying programs await lovers of museum experiences. 

This year’s theme for the country’s largest cultural event series is Stories Wrapped in Bread, which focuses on the connection between gastronomy and cultural heritage. With such a diverse range of programs, both young and old will find something to their liking, so there’s only one question left: where to start? We’re here to help you choose—we’ve compiled a list of the most exciting events. 

History Up Close at Laczkó Dezső Museum

Have you always been interested in Veszprém and the history of the region? At Laczkó Dezső Museum this evening, you can gain an even deeper insight into the details, while exciting events await you at several locations: Opening of The Backyard Grassland exhibition, special presentations, family programs, stamp-collecting stations, and even the Memory Machine permanent, reflecting this year’s theme, will be expanded for one evening with a guided tour titled Veszprém Spaces. At Heroes’ Gate, an exhibition will showcase the Treasures of the Heroes, while medicinal plants take center stage at Bakony House, and the Fire Watchtower will be open for visits until midnight in special half-hour in half-hour shifts.

Exhibitions, workshops, and collaborative art projects at House of Arts Veszprém

Discover inspiring stories from contemporary and classical art in a truly unique setting. On June 20, the exhibition spaces of House of Arts will offer art lovers even more experiences than usual: interactive, community-based visual arts programs, studio visits, a family art courtyard, an unconventional slam poetry evening, special workshops, and a theatrical exhibition opening round out the offerings, several ofseveral events are excitingly linked to this year’s theme and showcase the connection between gastronomy and art.  

Archdiocese of Veszprém: The Hidden Treasures of the Castle District Unveiled

In the Veszprém Castle District, history and culture combine to create an exciting blend of community experiences. The charming Baroque garden and the historic surroundings offer a wonderful program for summer evenings in their own right: join us for special craft workshops and exciting roundtable discussions, and discover the hidden treasures of the Archbishop’s Palace, Gizella Chapel and St. Michael’s Cathedral through on-site visits and guided tours.

Crime, Punishment, and Prison Food at the Dungeon

The Dungeon Visitor Center presents the world of crime and punishment from a truly unique perspective this evening. Unconventional guided tours, historical walks, an exhibition of punk art prison sketches, exciting discussions, and the lesser-known sites of the Veszprém underground will be revealed to you. By the end of the evening, you’ll even learn what the infamous wine cellar feast was really like, and even get a taste of the past during a special tasting session. 

An Evening in the World of Shelters: Discover the Bunker Museum in Veszprém!

On June 20, Veszprém Bunker Museum invites visitors to a special journey through time at two different locations: civilian shelter tours, exhibitions, film screenings, and presentations that showcase daily life in the underground world. During the program, you can learn about how the bunkers operate through a simulated emergency drill, while a wine and cheese tasting, a market, and a live guitar concert by Danish singer-songwriter Frederik Cornelius.

Villa Romana Baláca

Villa Romana Baláca invites you on a unique journey back in time to the world of the Roman era! Join the pottery painting workshop, a guided tour, or mythological battles, as the villa’s history and exhibits come to life around you. The programs are complemented by a craft fair and culinary experiences, so history and art are both present at one of the most unique venues in the Balaton Uplands.

Once again, Csontváry’s art speaks to us through the language of photons at CODE

One of the CODE Digital Experience Center’s most popular immersive exhibitions, Csontváry - In the Language of Photons, which presents the life and works of the world-renowned painter Tivadar Csontváry Kosztka through a multi-sensory, audiovisual journey that engages all the senses. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to learn the basics of programming, how artificial intelligence works, and the world of 3D printing through play. Screen-free activities, interactive experiences, and forward-looking creations await visitors of all ages in the playground of the future. 

Agóra Veszprém Cultural Center

Agóra Veszprém Cultural Center invites interested visitors to a unique journey through local history in Gyulafirátót, during which we can gain a deeper insight into the Hadnagy László Local History Collection.

On June 20, V-Bus will offer free rides all day long to holders of a combined ticket. To travel, you must present your wristband.

Are you coming from farther away? Special shuttle services will be available on June 20 to help with your travel

During Night of Museums, those arriving by public transportation need not worry about getting home: on June 20, VOLÁN will provide additional service to facilitate travel between Veszprém and Balácapuszta.

Throughout the evening, buses will depart from Veszprém several times to the event venue, including a special service launched just for this occasion. The buses will also stop at Nemesvámos and at bus stops along the route, ensuring a convenient journey for those arriving from the surrounding area as well.

Special buses also help with the return trip: from Balácapuszta, you can return to Veszprém, where you can catch connecting trains to destinations including Balatonfüred, Balatonalmádi, Siófok, Ajka and Várpalota .

County and national passes are also valid on these routes.

Would you rather come by bike? On Museum Day, you can use V-Bike bicycles for more than 30 minutes, so you can visit the Bunker Museum near the train station or the Balácapuszta villa estate.

We will refund the surcharge for use exceeding 30 minutes after the event. It is important that you purchase a combined ticket for the Night of Museums event and have a V-Bike pass; furthermore, register with V-Bike so that the surcharge for rides over 30 minutes can be credited to your account based on this.

The Night of Museums 2026 program features numerous free events, and you can participate in even more events by purchasing a combination ticket.

The full price 3,000 forints, while discounted tickets for those between the ages of 6 and 18 cost 1,500 forints.

Residents of Veszprém who purchase tickets with the Veszprém Card are eligible for a 20% discount.
