The Japan Center and the House of Arts in Veszprém invite interested parties to a mini-festival

On the last Saturday of August, the House of Arts in Veszprém and the Japan Center invite you on a special cultural journey: a one-day mini-festival offering a unique fusion of Japanese and Hungarian traditions, arts, and contemporary creations. The event is a precursor to next year's KYŌ-SŌ project, a large-scale international collaboration whose goal is to bring together artists from the two countries through the languages of music and visual arts.

The easternmost experience of summer

The festival program is a real treasure trove for lovers of Japanese culture. Visitors can try their hand at the art of shodō (Japanese calligraphy) with master Kazuki Jade Mitsui, learn about the art ofsuminagashi paper marbling, shibori textile dyeing, or sashiko quilting techniques. The more creative ones can also learn wa-toji Japanese bookbinding.

The program includes a demonstration of furoshiki cloth wrapping, a kōdō incense ceremony, and a sumō-e exhibition, where master Kinoshita Daimon and his student, Kato Madoka, evoke the world of traditional sumo.

Encounters in music and flavors

Japanese melodies fill the stage: Nóra Nagy &singer, Attila Blaho, jazz pianist, and Takaki Ando, sanshin artist, form a true cultural bridge between East and West. Lovers of culinary experiences can take part in a special presentation and tasting, and in the evening, visitors can enjoy Japanese film screenings.

Century-old kimonos and timeless aesthetics

The visual experience is crowned by Dr. Tímea Kocsis's kimono collection, which includes rare pieces that are more than a hundred years old. In addition to the exhibition, there will also be contemporary art and photography exhibitions, allowing visitors to discover both traditional and modern Japanese visual culture.

A day that connects

The festival not only showcases Japanese culture, but also brings it closer to home through interactive, craft, and musical experiences. Those who visit Veszprém on August 31 can experience the freshness of spring, the excitement of summer, the harmony of autumn, and the silence of winter in a single day all in Japanese and Hungarian songs.
