Sailing, kayaking, SUP yoga – free water sports programs from spring through fall at Kékszalag PORT
Under the slogan Our Balaton, Our Sport, a series of free sports programs will be held in Balatonfüred from mid-May to mid-September at Kékszalag PORT marina as part of the Veszprém-Bakony-Balaton European Region of Sport 2026 program. On these themed days, which are open to everyone, participants can take part in sailing and kayaking tours, as well as SUP yoga classes, free of charge. The series of events will kick off on May 2, where, in addition to water sports, those interested can try out numerous land-based sports as well.
From mid-May to mid-September, everyone will have the opportunity to enjoy water sports in Balatonfüred. As part of the Veszprém-Bakony-Balaton European Region of Sport 2026 program, Kékszalag PORT marina offers sailing and kayaking tours, SUP yoga classes, and kiteboarding challenges, and visitors.
“Last July, the international jury of ACES Europe visited, among other facilities, Kékszalag PORT to inspect our marina as a potential venue for the European Region of Sport program. Then, when the opportunity to apply for the programs opened, we immediately decided that we would like to organize a free series encompassing multiple sports to provide an introduction to winter sports and, not least, to get those interested moving,”
—said András Holczhauser, manager of Kékszalag PORT marina.
Hoist the sail, grab your paddle, and hit the water!
Their project, titled Our Balaton, Our Sport, received a positive evaluation under the Veszprém-Bakony-Balaton European Region of Sport 2026 program, opening the door to free water sports programs open to everyone from spring through fall. For those eager to get active, we’re offering sailing trips every Wednesday from now until September, kayaking tours on Thursdays, and SUP yoga classes on Fridays.
“We hope that word of the program will reach as many people as possible, whether they live in the area or are visiting the region. We hope that many people—whether with family, friends, or coworkers—will feel inspired to join us on the water during their vacation, or even after work, will feel inspired to join us on the water and take part in a two-hour activity,”
—says István Szépvölgyi, the program’s collaborating partner and director of Hungarian Sailing Academy. He emphasized that participation in the events is free of charge, but registration for the tours is required at www.kekszalagport.hu, where the programs can be found by date in the event calendar.
Season-Opening Sports Day – The harbor will be filled with sports on May 2
The opening ceremony of the program will be held on May 2, when 90-minute sailing and kayaking mini-tours will take place in several sessions, and, in cooperation with the Balatonfüred Sports Club, participants will also have the opportunity to try out a variety of land-based sports.
“We were delighted to receive an invitation from Kékszalag Port to join the sports day on May 2. Our club will arrive at the marina with several teams, including our youth team, and, with the cooperation of St. Benedict Volleyball Academy; there will also be an opportunity to play volleyball, and we are also preparing for teqball. I think we can look forward to a truly sporty day,”
- said András Holczer, president of Balatonfüred Sport Club.
In mid-June, students will once again take over the harbor
At Kékszalag PORT, the Hungarian Sailing Federation has been successfully organizing open sailing days. In recent years, upper-grade elementary school students, as well as high school students, were welcomed at the marina so they could learn about “small boat sailing” and try their hand at it in practice. This program for students has been extended to a full day with the support of the Veszprém-Bakony-Balaton European Region of Sport 2026 initiative, and in addition to sailing, it will feature kayaking and kiteboarding activities.
