Movies are ours! – Wrap up the summer with Veszprém-Balaton Film Picnic’s programs

August 27 and 29, the revamped Veszprém-Balaton Film Picnic returns with movies, music, and community experiences. This year, the three-day festival will once again highlight the unique atmosphere of open-air cinema, the most exciting Hungarian films, and personal encounters in Veszprém and Balatonfüred.  

New releases, audience favorites, family and music programs: from the historic city center to the Lake Balaton open-air cinema and modern audiovisual venues, you can choose from several locations. Don’t miss this weekend, when Veszprém and Balatonfüred offer some real cinematic treats!

Exciting conversations, inspiring encounters, and a memorable end-of-summer experience that you’ll carry with you for a long time to come. In addition, Filmpiknik offers not only screenings between programs but also a true cultural experience for all age groups, ranging from feature and documentary movies to animated movies, public meetings, and roundtable discussions, all the way to kids' programs. 

Come and experience one of Veszprém’s most iconic locations: Old Town Square, which transforms into a true open-air movie theater for three evenings during the Film Picnic. Surrounded by historic buildings, the square provides a unique backdrop for summer evenings, where on August 27, Stars of Little Importance, Renátó Olasz’s first movie, produced in collaboration with Béla Tarr, and the Hungarian thriller Feels Like Home will create a truly suspenseful atmosphere. And if you prefer lighter entertainment, on August 29 don’t miss the screening of Love, Forgotten, which has become one of the most successful Hungarian romantic films of recent years. 

Hangvilla in Veszprém, housed in a former movie theater building, is the modern festival hub of Filmpiknik, where the most eagerly anticipated premieres and featured screenings take place. If you want to experience the movies in the best possible quality, this venue is the ideal choice for you thanks to its comfortable setting and state-of-the-art technology.

The program on August 27: the production titled The Fifth Seal, Zoltán Fábi’s classic, which is followed on August 28 byTamás Buvári’s new movie, Earth and Iron, a production that tells the story of home, separation, and the intertwining of human destinies.  On August 29, don’t miss the premiere of Kata Dobó and Fanni Szilágyi’s Just One More Wish film, or the premiere of The Lechner Legacy, Growing Down and Passionate Women—you should definitely add these to your watchlist! 

Located in Veszprém Castle, FOTON Audiovisual Center is one of Filmpiknik’s most unique venues , where, in addition to the films, exciting discussions, workshops, and musical programs enrich the festival experience. The screenings will take place at the FOTON movie theater, while the accompanying programs will be held at the cozy FOTON Specialty Café & Bar .

On August 27, among other films, Attila Dargay’s biographical film, On the 28th, Hungarian Wedding, 1,000 Years of Heritage, and Kurtág Fragments will be screened, while on the 29th Damnation, Music of the Mountains, and Orphan are going to be featured. 

In the mood for a little musical experience? Luckily, at FOTON, the night doesn’t end after the movie screenings: on August 27 DJ - f|x|r Visual Night will have you dancing to the music , on August 28 DJ Infragandhi, and on the 29th , DJ lvl will keep the party going. 

Expresszó has been one of the defining clubs on the Veszprém music scene for more than a decade, and it’s definitely worth checking out during Filmpiknik. Over the course of three days, a variety of creative works and film programs await you: on August 27, among others, you can see The Silent Friend, Mayflies, Mambo Maternica, and Random will be shown on the big screen, on August 28, a selection of animated and short films along with Long Road, My Chemical Information System, and Restored Past will also be screened.  

A shady, nature-inspired public space is Nyárkert, where, during the Film Picnic, they’ll be hosting film screenings and live music performances, and, as part of the various accompanying programs, the creative artists working behind the scenes of the movies will also be in the spotlight.  On August 28, don’t miss the roundtable discussion titled “What Is a Movie Without Music? where Ádám Balázs, János Másik, István Márta, and Csaba Kalotás discuss how a film’s musical world comes to life. The evening will feature performances by Boebeck, Orbay Lilla Quintet, and DJ Sosemvolt.

On August 29, the movie-themed discussions continue— including, among others, Those Who Write About Movies, Where Is the Line?, and What Was the Reason? — followed by Brumiko, Nóv Soma and Sándor Csoóri Jr., and finally Erik Sumo (DJ set) will keep the party going. 

During Filmpiknik, stop by CODE and experience a whole new dimension of cinema! Would you like to immerse yourself in Victor Vasarely’s world, filled with shapes and colors, are you curious about the history of Hungarian geniuses and inventions, would you like to set out in search of hidden sounds, or perhaps re-enter the extraordinary artistic world of Tivadar Csontváry Kosztka ? In addition to the immersive screenings, don’t miss the expert discussions, which explore the 360°film language and the new possibilities of cinema. Experience these three days at CODE, where film doesn’t just appear on the screen—it surrounds you, inspiring conversation and opening up new perspectives for you!

Located in the park of historic Vaszary Villa, this venue is one of Balatonfüred’s most charming cultural gathering places, where the peaceful, green surroundings and cinematic experiences create a truly special atmosphere. During the festival’s three days, you can choose from a variety of genres: on August 27 including, among others, Festival Country, Hen, and Bachelor Party will be screened, and on August 29, the documentary TSpring Wind — the Awakening and the production Egykutya will be screened.

Balatonfüred’s popular movie theater, Balaton Mozi, located in Balaton Leisure & Conference Center, welcomes movie lovers with a diverse program of Hungarian movies during Filmpiknik. Ildikó Enyedi’s Silent Friend—which, with its sensitive and unique style, is set to be one of the festival’s most important screenings— is shown on August 28 at Balaton Cinema in Balatonfüred. But that’s not all: on August 27, among others, The Lechner Legacy, Feels Like Home, and Orphan will be screened; on the 28th Who Cares About Pál Frenák, Happiness on the Road are on, and you can also choose Random, while on the 29th the The Quest: Csongor and Tünde, My Father’s Daughter, and Growing Down await movie lovers. 

Three movies, three different perspectives: and this time, sports bring us together on the big screen. In collaboration with Veszprém-Balaton European Region of Sport 2026 and Filmpicnic, the program will feature movies and discussions that explore the world of sports, physical activity, and human performance. 

On August 27, FOTONwill screen the documentary Weather Bound, which explores the relationship between humans and nature through the stories of extreme athletes. On August 28, at Vaszary Café and Garden in Balatonfüred, the film Bölöni, a Legend from Transylvania recounts László Bölöni’s exceptional athletic career and life story. On August 29, Expresszó will feature the following on the Region of Sport: Special Movie Festival focuses on inclusive filmmaking and accessibility, and the roundtable discussion will also feature Szilvia Bonyhádi, a representative of the Veszprém-Balaton European Region of Sport 2026. The program’s featured film is Come On, Tete!, which offers a closer look at the life of Paralympian Fanni Illés.

 For many people, the experience of watching a movie in a public setting is a childhood memory, and Filmpiknik aims to to the youngest viewers as well, so the festival also caters to families: with animated selections and classic family films, including Saffi and Hi, Sári, are also on the program. Veszprém-Balaton Film Picnic 2026 is not just a film festival, but one of the most unique community experiences of the summer.
