The Nagyvázsony Livestock and Farmers’ Market—When the Concept of a Market Takes on Meaning
If you’d like to visit a unique venue that’s different from the typical farmers’ markets, then Nagyvázsony is the place for you! Held at the Igásló Center, the livestock and farmers’ market is like a trip back in time: animals, farmers, artisans, colorful stalls, and, of course, the unmissable fair snacks all mingle in the hustle and bustle. For kids, getting up close to the animals is the icing on the cake, so we wholeheartedly recommend this market to families as well. And if you’re already in Nagyvázsony, a visit to the market can easily turn into a full-day outing thanks to Kinizsi Castle and the surrounding attractions.
Market Day: In 2026, the market is held from spring through fall on the first Sunday of every month; among the fall dates, a market on November 8 is also included in the schedule.
A BASKETFUL OF BALATON – DISCOVER THE MARKETS OF THE BALATON UPLANDS
Vászoly-Dörgicse Farmers' Market
When it comes to markets, we know of a perfect match in the Balaton Uplands! Vászoly and Dörgicse are neighboring towns, and the farmers’ markets in both towns welcome visitors on alternate Saturdays: so if there’s no market in one village one weekend, it’s worth checking out what’s happening in the other.
In Dörgicse, a family-friendly market day is held every other Saturday in the village hall courtyard, featuring sourdough bread, smoked meats, cheeses, jams, honey, dried fruits, and handmade crafts. Vászoly also follows this rhythm with its select Saturday market days, and in December, it even welcomes visitors with an Advent market.
What’s the best part? It’s that you don’t have to decide between a trip to the market or an outing—here, the two go hand in hand. After a morning at the market, you can take a walk through the village, and you can even enjoy the treats you bought at a fall picnic at St. James' Spring in Vászoly or at the foot of Dörgicse castle ruins.
Hegymagas Market Square – pleasant Saturday mornings at the foot of St. George’s Hill
There’s something very “Balaton-like” about heading up the hill on a Saturday morning instead of heading to a shopping center. In Hegymagas at the foot of St. George’s Hill, local farmers and artisans await shoppers at the market, where the selection includes seasonal vegetables and fruits, cheeses, smoked meats, jams, honey, breads, and pastries. And if you arrive hungry, you can even have breakfast there. In the fall, it’s especially nice to spend the morning there: browsing the market, a cup of coffee, a light brunch, and then a walk around Szent György Hill. You certainly won’t have to rush here!
Liliomkert Market—a place where it’s worth getting lost among the stalls
One of the best-known markets in the Kál Basin, Liliomkert in Kápálantóti is a great destination in its own right. Every Sunday, at the stalls nestled among the trees, you’ll find not only fresh delicacies from local farmers, but also cheeses, meats, baked goods, jams, handmade goods, antiques, and all sorts of treasures you might not even have expected to find. That’s exactly what we love so much about it: the magic of surprise. Enjoy the market: stroll through the stalls, sample something, chat with the vendors, and let yourself get lost in the hustle and bustle of the market.
Market Days: Liliomkert welcomes visitors every Sunday, all year round.
Tihany Marketplace – Market Shopping with a Lake Balaton Atmosphere
Tihany Marketplace, located right next to the ferry terminal, has a completely different atmosphere: in addition to local foods, cheeses, baked goods, jams, and honey, you can also browse through handmade crafts, works of art, and antiques. The market is made even more vibrant by its unique culinary offerings, seasonal and special-occasion concerts, and themed programs. In the fall, a Saturday morning outing to Tihany is a particularly good idea: browse the market, have breakfast, take a stroll around the peninsula, and then relax on the shores of Lake Balaton.
Market Day: the market is closed from winter through spring; during the fall, it is open from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. every Saturday
Csopak Eco-Market – small, cozy, and full of delicacies
If you’re drawn to a quieter, more family-friendly market rather than the hustle and bustle, Csopak might be a good choice. At the farmers’ market held in the courtyard of Balaton Borkúria, 10–13 producers and artisans typically offer their products. Alongside oven-baked lángos, chimney cake, Mangalica pork products, and smoked trout—as well as homemade pasta and pottery—can all find their way into your shopping basket, and a play area awaits the children.

Balatonszemes Farmers' Market – where you can escape the hustle and bustle
Balatonszemes market is one of those places where we don’t necessarily set out for a spectacular market attractioné, but rather because it feels good to linger a bit among the stalls. Local farmers’ seasonal produce, vegetables, fruits, homemade delicacies, jams, cheeses, and artisanal products await you.
Market Days: the market is open all year round, so it’s easy to fit a visit into a weekend at Lake Balaton, even in the fall.
Fonyód Market—where even a whole morning might not be enough
Fonyód Market is one of Lake Balaton’s great classics, and not by accident. The three-hectare area alone makes it clear that this isn’t just a quick shopping trip: a visit to the market can easily turn into a half-day outing.
