No. 2: Veszprém Castle

Veszprém Castle is one of the city’s most popular attractions. Several religious and scholarly institutions are located within the castle district. Entering through the Gate of Heroes, you’ll find many sights, including the St. Michael’s Cathedral, the Archbishop’s Palace, the Holy Trinity Statue, statues of King Stephen and Queen Gisela, and the St. George Chapel. The only tower of the castle stands at the end of the Veszprém Castle, rising 48 meters high. Its cylindrical part, built from broken stone, is likely medieval, with its entrance facing the castle interior. From its circular balcony, you’ll enjoy a stunning view of Veszprém’s districts – a must for photography lovers. The clock in the copper tower plays Antal Csermák’s verbunkos music every hour.

Sculptor Mihály Kolodko’s three works are located in the City of Queens. Ernő, the castle guard, stands at the Gate of Heroes. You’ll find Ödön, the street musician, at the beginning of Kossuth Lajos Street, while Leonóra and the lion are located on Kollégium Street.
