10 Romantic Date Ideas in Veszprém and the Bakony-Balaton Region

Some people believe that true romance is a candlelit dinner with a glass of wine, while others prefer to put on their hiking boots and wait for the sunset at the summit of a nearby hill. Of course, there are also those who feel truly at home at a concert or even on a bike tour around Lake Balaton, and of course, let’s not forget those couples who are looking for activities that are completely different from the traditional ones.

We’re all different, so the concept of the “perfect date” means something different to everyone. Fortunately, we have an idea for every type of person, and without claiming to be exhaustive, we’ve compiled a list of our favorite alternativesin Veszprém and the Bakony-Balaton region, so you’ll have plenty to draw inspiration from even if you’re tired of the classic “dinner and a movie” combo.

1 People for whom a good conversation is all it takes for a perfect date

If companionship is more important to you than the choice of venue, and you’re just looking for a pleasant place where you don’t have to rush, there’s no loud music, and you finally have time to have deep conversations and really listen to each other, there are plenty of options to choose from in Veszprém. Take a stroll through the city center, Óváros Square, Veszprém Valley, or the area around the Monasteries and Gardens, but our absolute favorite is Love Island.

It’s no coincidence that the people of Veszprém gave this place its name: the shady walking path with small bridges and secluded benches—it couldn’t be a more perfect spot for a first, second, or even umpteenth date. And although, despite its name, it’s no longer a real island, the beauty of it is that it offers a true hideaway right in the middle of the city’s hustle and bustle.

HelloVEB Tip: once you’re on Love Island, don’t turn back. Keep walking along the Séd Creek toward the Monasteries and Gardens —  and along the way, you can stop at several places for coffee, pastries, or dinner.

2 Those who like to break away from traditional activities

If a stroll through a museum and the classic “dinner and a movie” date aren’t really your thing, there are still a few truly unique date ideas waiting for you in Veszprém. The CODE Center of Digital Experiences is just such a place, where science, art, and technology come together in a new dimension. The 360°-projected six-sided space, the Hexagon, the interactive Exhibition Space, and the 3D Studio offer three completely different experiences. One thing is for sure: this isn’t the kind of program you can wrap up in an hour, and for that reason alone, it’s a great choice—because you’ll carry those immersive experiences with you for a long time to come.

HelloVEB Tip: if you’re visiting CODE, don’t just stop at a screening. With the combo ticket, you can explore the interactive Exhibition Hall, and then choose a Studio Tour as well, during which you’ll also discover the mysteries of nature, art, architecture, or the mysteries of space. All you need for the latter is a little curiosity and a pair of 3D glasses.

3 People who would trade heels for hiking boots on the perfect date

If, when you hear the word “date,” hiking boots come to mind before the image of a restaurant, then this program is absolutely perfect for you. In the Bakony Hills and the Balaton Uplands, it’s not hard to find trails where there’s actually something to discover along the way. Instead of the classic trails, this time we’d rather recommend the lesser-known, “off-the-beaten-path” paths: for example, among the rugged cliffs of Kőszoros Valley, the Bakony reveals a completely different side of itself. Thanks to the narrow valley, the rock walls, and the forest trail, the journey itself is an experience here—not just the destination.

Have you heard of Haláp Hill nature trail? Here, the hike can even continue into the night, since you can camp in a tent on the hill, but in the Bakony Hills, you shouldn’t miss the reading cabin in Csinger Valley near Ajka, where you can relax deep in the forest and lose yourself in a book.

HelloVEB Tip: don't forget, this is a date, not a sightseeing tour! Choose a shorter route, bring a thermos of coffee or a small picnic basket, and keep one rule in mind: at the first interesting spot you discover, stop and enjoy the view.

5 Those for whom riding on two wheels is the real deal

Cycling can be so much more than just a way to get around: if you both love hopping on your bikes, why not turn it into the perfect date? You don’t have to cycle all the way around Lake Balaton right away—even a well-chosen route can easily make for a whole afternoon of fun.

Try out the Balatonfüred - Csopak - Kerekedi-Öböl route, where you can take a short break in addition to cycling. Öböl Piknik, for example, is a perfect choice if you’d like to take a break from the ride for a cup of coffee, breakfast, or a pleasant lunch.

The key is not to try to complete the route in record time: stop whenever you see a beautiful stretch of beach, an interesting little street, or a bench with a nice view. This date isn’t about the kilometers; it’s about making sure you have time for each other along the way.

HelloVEB Tip: on your next bike date, don’t plan a route—instead, pick three stops you want to visit. Pick a place to have breakfast or grab a coffee, a spot where you can just sit for a while, and a place to wrap up the day. Then connect them by bike.

6 Those who would rather hide from the world

There are times when you want to get out of the house while still enjoying a sense of intimacy and tranquility, without crowds or loud noise. That’s when smaller, more intimate spots come in handy—luckily, we have a few alternatives for this as well. Lelkem in Dörgicse is just such a place. In a garden shaded by walnut trees and decorated with lanterns, just a few tables await guests who have made reservations in advance. The menu changes seasonally, and the dishes are prepared using ingredients sourced from local producers. It’s not a place for a quick dinner, but rather a spot where you’ll want to linger a little longer.

HelloVEB Tip: take a walk through the Dörgicse lavender fields before dinner, then head over to Lelkem in the late afternoon. That way, you’ll already have enjoyed a shared activity before dinner, which will make your evening in the garden even more special.

7 Those for whom time stands still over a glass of wine

Would you like to enhance your wine-tasting experience with a breathtaking panoramic view? Then discover the charming wine cellars in the Somló, Szent György Hill, or Badacsony areas! In addition to tasting wines from the Balaton region, the wonderful scenery and unparalleled views are what make this experience truly special.

Wine tasting is a great date on its own, but there’s an even more exciting version: when you don’t just visit one winery, but stop by several along the way. 46° Balaton Wine Bus offers the perfect option for this. The hop-on, hop-off wine bus, which departs from Balatonfüred, connects the wineries of the Balatonfüred-Csopak wine region, allowing you to explore multiple locations without anyone having to skip the wine tasting just to drive. You get off, look around, taste some wine, then hop on the next bus and continue on: you can choose from more than twenty wineries and wine stops along the current routes.

The “Old Friends” route leads to well-known wineries, while the “Hidden Treasures” route takes you to smaller, more intimate wineries. The latter is an especially good choice for those who have already visited the Balatonfüred-Csopak wine region many times, but still enjoy discovering new places.

HelloVEB Tip: if you listen to us, don’t try to visit all the stops at once! Pick out no more than three or four, and leave yourself time to really take a look around at each one. After all, Borbusz isn’t just a shuttle service between wineries—it’s a full-day exploration of the vineyards.

8 For lovers of the “golden hour”

There are couples for whom watching the sunset is simply a must for any romantic outing, and we understand that perfectly. And let’s face it: it’s not hard to find the perfect spot for this in the Balaton Uplands. A lookout point, a bench along a vineyard path, a high bank, or the panoramic view of the Tihany Peninsula takes on a whole new look in the last hour. The point here isn’t necessarily to find the “most perfect” spot, but that you arrive on time, don’t just spend ten minutes there, and really enjoy the moment.

HelloVEB Tip: we’ve already compiled a special selection of the most beautiful sunset spots on the north coast for you, which you can find on our Facebook and Instagram pages. Save it and pick one for your next date!

9 For the true classics

There are programs we love because they always work, no matter the circumstances, and they’re great for last-minute ideas, too. With a good dinner, a pleasant evening, and a beautiful view, it’s hard to go wrong, and in the old town, there are plenty of places where you don’t have to choose between a gastronomic experience and a lavish setting.

Echo Restaurant & Café in Tihany or Rege Pastry Shop & Restaurant on Visszhang Hill await you with panoramic views of Lake Balaton, and if you prefer the vineyard setting, Petrányi Winery in Csopak offers a wine-region atmosphere as part of the experience.

HelloVEB Tip: dinner doesn’t necessarily have to mark the end of the date. If you choose a spot with a beautiful evening view, a short walk can provide a completely different ending to the evening than heading home right after the last bite.

10 Those Who Would Even Bring the Stars Down from the Sky

If you love sunsets but think a date under the starry sky is the real deal, then Bakony Observatory might be the perfect date spot for you.  Located in Bakonybél, in the heart of the Bakony Hills, the observatory features a planetarium, and with the help of astronomy presentations and telescope observations, you can get up close and personal with the universe. A family-friendly event where you’re guaranteed to have plenty to talk about on the way home— and maybe we’ll even find out which of them can name more constellations.

HelloVEB Tip: check out the evening programs at Bakony Observatory in advance, and if possible, choose a time when they’re also holding a telescope demonstration, because that’s what makes the experience truly unforgettable.

Here's another idea: Don't feel like planning, and do you like spontaneous outings?

Open the HelloVEB Discovery Map, close your eyes, and click somewhere on the map. See what’s nearby: the map shows events, venues, and activities in the area, from which you can choose together where to go.

We provide the idea, but it’s up to you to make it happen. Where would you start?
