Our February performer at Ruttner Jazz Club is ✨ VOYAGERS✨

Overview:

The jazz trio was formed in the fall of 2024, and their music focuses on travel as an internal and shared experience. Their playing is characterized by open forms, chamber music attentiveness, and a strong sense of presence. The backbone of the program is formed by the compositions of János Nagy Yancha, which take their final shape during the collaborative creative process. The pieces are not closed structures, but living musical spaces that can take new paths with each performance. Improvisation plays a narrative role: it is not a means of self-indulgent virtuosity, but a tool for telling a musical story. Silence, subtle dynamic nuances, and deep orchestral ensemble playing with mutual attention are of particular importance. The trio's music combines the language of contemporary jazz with a contemporary mindset, free of any superfluity and with a refined sound. Their first album, Voyagers, was released in 2025. The band's pianist and composer is János Yancha, Erkel Ferenc Award-winning pianist and a defining figure in Hungarian jazz, who has also performed regularly on international stages in recent years as a member of Frank Gambale All Stars Band. Tibor Fonay plays the double bass, a Junior Prima and Fonogram award-winning musician who, with his extensive international experience, provides a confident yet exceptionally sensitive foundation for the music. Áron Nyirő plays the drums, and with his European and Indian musical experience, his delicate touch, and his strong sense of form, he defines the trio's music.
