László Bölöni is rightly considered the greatest figure in Transylvanian football, a legend in Romanian and Hungarian sporting history, as he was the only Hungarian footballer, alongside Ferenc Puskás, to lift the European Cup, and he did so as a player for the Romanian showcase team, Steaua Bucharest. He made a lasting impression not only as a player but also as a coach. Among the legends of football history today, he played alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, Axel Witsel, Raphael Varane, Ricardo Quaresma, and Petr Cech. The film is a magical journey through different eras and across Europe, in which world stars, Romanian and Hungarian football legendsand historical figures recount the career of László Bölöni, a man who knew no boundaries and considered nothing impossible. Bölöni László is an exemplary figure not only as an athlete but also as a person. He was an active soccer playerHe graduated from medical school and worked as a dentist, becoming one of Romania's greatest sporting icons while remaining Hungarian throughout. His personality and life story remain a link that connects the two nations, as "Bölöni Laci" is revered as a national hero on both sides of the border by Hungarians, Romanians, Saxons, and Gypsies alike. The film is based on László Bólyi's unpublished autobiography and draws on archival material from Europe, Hungary, and Romania. It also features many world-famous personalities, such asValentin Ceausescu, son of the late Romanian communist dictator and former patron of Steaua Bucharest, and Mircea Dinescu, an iconic figure of the 1989 Romanian revolution. In addition to Romanian legends such as Helmuth Duckadam and Georghe Hagi, Tibor Nyilasi, the legend of Ferencváros, and Kálmán Kovács, the star player of Honvéd, also speak about Hungary.
Dr. Tamás Kollarik: "The Romanians and Hungarians live in harmony along the Carpathians, and our goal with this film was to show that even with a very difficult and complex historical heritage, it is possible to find common values and goals. The personality and career of László Bólyi connect Romania and Hungary, and his diligence and integrity make him a role model for the younger generation. The Bölöni film is more than just a sports film; it is the proud story of a poor Hungarian-Székely boy from a minority group who, thanks to his perseverance, and many difficulties and sacrifices, he managed to escape from the communist dictatorship to free Western Europe and reached the pinnacle of European football, without losing either his faith or his strength. Attila Szabó, the film's Transylvanian co-director, said: "As a Hungarian from Transylvania, Romania, I am biased, but this film is a privilege for me, and I am grateful to Tamás Kollarik for inviting me to be part of this project! László Bölöni is a symbol of sporting perseverance, and I have been a fan of his since childhood. He is an exemplary figure not only as an athlete but also as a person, having completed medical school and worked as a dentist while still an active soccer player.. The film is a nostalgic memento for his contemporaries and an authentic documentary with original footage for future generations.
