Nearly 20 years ago, an international solidarity initiative was launched in 2007, designating April 2 as World Autism Awareness Day. On this occasion, in many parts of the world, the active use of the color blueraise awareness about the acceptance of people living with autism.

The creative arts education team at the House of Arts in Veszprém is organizing an open workshop to mark World Autism Awareness Day, where participants can learn the basics of shibori textile dyeing, a Japanese technique traditionally using blue dye. Shibori is a traditional Japanese textile dyeing technique dating back to the 8th century, the essence of which lies in using various methods (such as folding, crumpling, twisting, pressing, tying, and sewing) to block out certain areas of the fabric, creating patterns and designs. During the workshop, we will create unique, blue-dyed scarves.

While painting, we’ll make good use of our waiting time. We’ll learn about furoshiki, an eco-friendly Japanese wrapping method. Using this wrapping technique, which is useful in everyday life, we will make a bag. 3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m., 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. / Tuesday, March 31, 2026. Sessions begin at 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. /House of Arts, Veszprém, Studio S, 17 Vár Street.

The workshop will be led by Eszter Marton, director of Varródoboz Community Textile Workshop, and Bernadett Grászli, art historian and furoshiki instructor. Participation in the program is free and recommended for ages 10 and up.
