The European Mobility Week will be held for the twenty-fourth time this year, from September 16 to 22. The aim of the campaign is to promote environmentally friendly and sustainable urban transport. As Europe’s largest transport and environmental awareness campaign, it is becoming increasingly popular in Hungary year after year.
The event series aims to strengthen environmental awareness in society and draws attention to:
- the environmental, safety, and urban design issues caused by increased car traffic,
- the importance of choosing modes of transport responsibly,
- the benefits of sustainable, environmentally and people-friendly urban mobility,
- the need to develop public transport, cycling, and pedestrian infrastructure.
During Mobility Week, municipalities can:
- showcase their transport policy initiatives and best practices aimed at promoting sustainable mobility,
- raise public awareness of the negative impacts (air pollution, noise, congestion, accident risk) caused by over-motorization in urban environments and its effect on residents’ quality of life,
- participate in a Europe-wide campaign characterized by shared goals and unified content across all participating cities,
- emphasize their commitment to sustainable urban mobility and pledge to introduce new climate- and environmentally friendly transport policy measures as a long-term responsibility.
This year’s motto for 2025, “Mobility for All,” calls on us to design and build a society where transport services are available, accessible, affordable, inclusive, and safe—ensuring that public transport, walking, and cycling offer fair opportunities for everyone.
Many people face challenges such as high costs or lack of transport options, which limit their access to jobs, education, and essential services—this is known as transport poverty.
