Clive Chandler & the walking tall company: Giant dancing Punch, Judy and baby
These giant dancing figures bring joy wherever they go. As they roam about they are always happy to engage with the general public. They enjoy meeting with children and love to have fun with adults too. You may stand back and admire them from a distance, or venture a little closer to shake their hands, or doing with them in one of there eccentric and impromptu dances. These larger than life character are much bigger versions of the little puppets that appear in the traditional English street puppet show known as ‘Punch and Judy’. These characters date back more than three centuries and have a strong resonance in the popular imagination and culture of their home country.
This good humour easily recognised in other lands. Representing these well-known characters in this oversized way is an original concept which is unique to this company. The iconic Mr Punch is accompanied by his wife Judy, and the Baby. The baby has a tendency to run away from the less than diligent parents who are easily distracted by the world around them.
This is not a fixed performance. There are no words, and there is no plot or story. They simply meet with people to have a good time and share their sense of fun and explore the situations in which they find themselves. They weave through crowds, revel in photo opportunities and seek out comic encounters of all kinds. All those who choose to come and make their acquaintance will be left with smiles on their faces, and as we say in English, surely be 'as pleased as Punch’.
